This year FoFVA members are busily creating, producing and supporting the many film and media related events, workshops, and groups hosted around New Mexico that serve our independent filmmaking community, including:

May 15 deadline for free submission to TUFF : $3000 first prize . 1 minute filmsThe 10th annual Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF) is currently accepting international submissions for this year’s festival, running from September 10-18, 2016.  www.torontourbanfilmfestival.com

May 7: Filmmaker/author Julia Cameron presents a one day workshop in Santa Fe based on her book, “The Artist Way”. This is a fundraiser sponsored by NM WIF  to raise money for Filmmaker Scholarships.

 This is a FoFVA Spring Celebration, a time to reconnect with our friends and filmmaking passions.

Current and past members of FoFVA are invited to screen their short film and lead a 5 minute discussion.
Bring your short flick, excerpt or “work in progress” to screen (on thumb or flash drive) 
Short Film Appreciation Phenomenon
How it works: 
FoFVA members, past and present:  Bring your short film or excerpt, up to 5 minutes on a thumb drive.
There will be a sign up list at the meeting. 
First come first serve.  Title   Length  Presenter  Talent   etc. 
Total 10 minutes for each person includes your 5 min screening, 5 min for Q and A. (if you have more than 1 submission, it can be part of round 2,  time permitting) 
Beginning at 
3:30pm  First come first serve
We’ll screen your piece, then you’ll have 5 minutes for Q and A or whatever best serves you. 
There will be someone working a timer at the Phenomenon.
Share your involvement in the short film. (Sound, camera, director, writer, etc.)
5 min. or less screenings/excerpts, with 5 min for members to share encouraging/useful comments.
PLUS, we will screen some award winning examples of shorts from a Short Film Festival Channel, 
including a discussion on what we thought worked, could be different, and what made them award-winning. 
This is a FoFVA Spring Celebration, a time to reconnect with our friends and filmmaking passions.

Got a story?  Let us help you make it as quirky and sharp and interesting as it possibly can be! Breaking down story structure for factual entertainment segments
WHERE: WESST Enterprise Center,  609 Broadway Blvd NE, Albuquerque.

WHEN:  February 15,  2015 Sunday 3-6pm
WHAT:Topic: Anatomy of a “factual entertainment” TV pilot. Come walk through the steps of producing this pilot. Using 23 minute Quirky View pilot for this presentation, Producer Anne Stirling will workshop you through the planning and steps from pitching to delivering a half hour pilot Quirky View for TV broadcast.What are the key elements and segments you need in a pilot to demonstrate what a Series could look like?
What about graphics? Music?
Stirling’s dream is for Quirky View to be a series with a broad audience, produced in NM by 100s of professionals in the film business, willing to work in a cooperative business model, to create stories about real people, not reality people.
WHY: Following her talk as part of February 12 TEDxABQ Film Salon, Anne Stirling’s Call to Action invites interested filmmakers to Sunday’s presentation/orientation.

January 18, 2015 Sunday 3-6pm
TOPIC:  “Story Telling for Documentaries” includes the screening of the half hour FoFVA produced program, with interviews from NM based storytelling filmmakers. Followed by a FoFVA Writer’s Panel with a discussion on how to use story structure in a non-scripted film , and how the writer’s panel can help you specifically to create a story for a Quirky View segment.

TIME: 3-6pm, includes social and introductions.
HOW: Free to members.  $10 Guests
